A Comprehensive List of Enhancements to Talaria’s New 72V Weapon

The new Talaria Sting MX5 Pro is here. Hyped up across the globe and even endorsed by Sur Ronster, the new MX5 release brings with it lots of enhancements that minimize the need to spend extra money on upgrades. Talaria has also addressed some pain points that customers have identified with previous models, making the MX5 the most developed and well-crafted Talaria that’s ever been released.

And it’s available at a red-hot price of just $6,499 CAD ($4,699 USD).

In this article, we’re assembling the most comprehensive list of upgrades we could come up with, revealing just how far down the rabbit hole Talaria went to create the MX5 – the most powerful and refined Talaria to date.

BATTERY

Of course, the key talking point is the new 72V/40Ah battery. With most of the competition in the light electric moto category using 60V batteries, this is a big upgrade that eliminates the need to buy a 72V aftermarket battery. Using new Samsung cells with a higher discharge rate, this unit boasts 2,880Wh of energy. This means more power and more range (an estimated 120 km at 25 km/h) plus improved temperature control to meet the demands of discerning e-moto riders.

CONTROLLER

Smarter, faster. The MX5’s controller uses updated firmware and now has the ability to compute multiple advanced control algorithms simultaneously. The result is more intuitive response and refined control.

MOTOR

Talaria redesigned the inner rotor, stator and outer casing to improve cooling. With efficiency reaching 94.5%, it can reliably and continuously handle the increased output from the 72V battery. Unrestricted top speed is a factory-estimated 95 km/h.

BRAKES & REGEN

The braking system on the MX5 has been thoroughly revised with a larger master cylinder using DOT fluid, larger brake calipers, larger pads with way more surface area, beefier discs and reinforced cables. This shifts the MX5 further into true moto territory and away from the MTB-spec brakes common in this category.

There’s also an awesome new regen thumb “throttle” to manually control the regenerative braking force. It’ll extend brake life and add a bit more range to your ride. Double win.

SUSPENSION & WHEELS

New, fully adjustable front & rear suspension includes an improved air + spring front fork. Fork travel has increased by 20 mm, improving overall geometry and eliminating the “stink bug” issue from models past. The wheels are also more moto-level than ever before; they’re still 19-inchers front & rear, but the new CNC machined rims have redesigned hubs and reinforced, straight-pull spokes.

DRIVETRAIN

The gearbox has been improved and strengthened to accommodate the MX5’s power output. The chain is now a beefy 428 version, again pushing the MX5 further into real moto territory. A new, robust chain guide minimizes chain-related woes on the trails.

FOOTPEGS

These new pegs are serious off-road stuff. CNC-machined and anti-slip with rugged lugs, these are the finest stock pegs you’ll find in the category. (Apologies in advance, Warp 9.)

MISCELLANEOUS

There’s so much more to mention. A new Hyper riding mode (in addition to Eco and Sport); that new colour TFT display; a thicker, more comfortable seat; an improved battery compartment (better fit); redesigned quick-release lid to accommodate the bigger battery case; and an on/off switch for the headlight.
